BETRAYAL - infidelity, loss of trust
ADDICTIONS - pornography, sex, drugs, alcohol, gambling
BOREDOM- sexual, emotional
SEXUALITY - intimacy, quantity/quality, negotiating alternative relationships
COMMUNICATION - having a voice, listening, stubbornness, patience, anger, expressions of affection
RECONCILIATION - redefining, renewing, rewiring
UNCOUPLING - knowing when it’s time
I have no fixed concept of what a relationship needs to be, but I consider these to be essential and non-negotiable ingredients for a healthy relationship:
- Do you and your partner bring out the best in one another?
- Is there mutual respect?
- Can you count on each other?
- Do you each feel heard and understood?
- How is conflict handled?
- Are emotions used constructively?
If your relationship is suffering in any of these areas, then yes, there is good reason to seek help. In the day to day, it can feel easier not to rock the boat. But why resign yourself to merely bearing out your coexistence?
Nothing cookie-cutter or scripted, but informed by my observations of your interactions, I avoid getting us mired in “who did what to whom” and instead get right to the root of the problem. Depending on your goals and challenges, my process can offer insights and solutions immediately, without the need to meander through ancient history. I encourage you to take an active role for the sake of your current or future relationships.
